New Crypto Debit Card Launches in Netherlands as Alternative to Low Interest Rates

New crypto debit card

With savings rates remaining low in the Netherlands and many people earning minimal returns on their savings accounts, a new crypto debit card is being introduced: a payment card that functions like a regular debit card but automatically gives a small free reward in crypto with every payment.

Dutch users trying the card for the first time also temporarily receive €15 in free Bitcoin when signing up with Kraken, the company behind the crypto debit card ‘Krak’.

A Payment Card That Actually Gives Something Back
#

The card works exactly like a normal debit card. You pay at the supermarket, check out online, or hold your phone against the payment terminal via Apple Pay or Google Pay. Nothing changes about how you’re used to paying.

The only difference is what happens in the background: with every payment, you automatically receive a small amount in crypto back.

This ‘cashback’ simply appears in your account as soon as you’ve paid. Whether you’re buying a coffee or doing your weekly groceries.

For many Dutch people, especially now that savings rates remain low, it feels like a way to build something extra without actively having to invest or trade. You pay as always, but something does come back in return.

Netherlands as a Logical Next Step

The rollout in the Netherlands, among other places, is no coincidence. Statistics show that Dutch people are among the most crypto-friendly consumers in Europe. And with the recent collaboration between bunq and Kraken, it already became clear that banks and crypto are increasingly moving closer together.

Besides the debit card, Kraken is expanding more broadly in the Netherlands with services such as receiving salary, money transfers, and managing crypto and euro balances in one environment. This makes the platform more of a practical tool for many users than just a trading app.

New Dutch and Belgian customers currently receive a welcome bonus of €15 in Bitcoin upon registration.
